久留米絣は、先染織物。糸を染めてから織機にかけて織ります。先染織物という前提があるからこそ「括り」という技術も確立されたと思います。現代の久留米絣においては、製法は同じで括り技術を伴わない無地や縞も久留米絣の範疇として作るため、工場内に整然と並んだ織機は、色とりどりの花を咲かせます。
