A day of Master(design)

Basic structure of double ring pattern

Main technique: Tate-Kasuri(single ikat), Kataha&Beta’s expression of shading

Warp: 40/2 cotton

Weft: 16/1 cotton (However, 20/1 is used depending on the color)

It is a design (design drawing) of two rings. It is made by combining 6 kinds of Kukuri patterns.

Not all of them are shown in the image, but by reading the numbers written around the design, it is possible to understand everything such as the Kukuri spacing, the number of warp threads, and Warikomi (how to arrange the Kasuri thread and the ground thread). It is the same as the score in music. It’s a nuance that makes it possible to understand the musical tone with the notes written on the score.

Kibata is a freshly woven fabric that is blanched, washed with water and air-dried to shrink about 10% in the vertical direction. Therefore, the pattern is written vertically considering the shrinkage.
