Shimokawa Textiles recognizes that the preservation of the global environment is the most important challenge shared by all humanity. Through all activities in which the company can participate, we take responsibility for the protection and improvement of the environment, striving to do our best in collaboration with our customers and employees.
Shimokawa Textiles, as a manufacturer and seller of cotton fabrics and textile products, commits to environmental protection activities based on the following policies:
- Environmental Awareness and Continuous Improvement:
We will always recognize the environmental aspects related to all our activities, products, and services, and continuously improve the environmental management system in all departments to prevent environmental pollution and promote environmental protection. - Compliance with Legal and Voluntary Requirements:
We will establish and manage self-imposed standards to comply with environmental laws, regulations, and any other requirements voluntarily accepted by our customers and stakeholders. - Key Environmental Focus Areas:
Among the environmental aspects related to our activities, products, and services, we will focus on the following areas:- Development of Environmentally Friendly Products:
We will work to develop products with minimal environmental impact. This includes managing and effectively utilizing dyed yarns (ensuring they are used until the very end) and processing custom products and in-house planned items to reduce waste.
We do not have any processes that lead to soil contamination, and we do not bury waste in the soil.
Only natural groundwater is used.
Maintaining the current production system contributes to the reduction of environmental impact, and we are committed to regular maintenance of production equipment to ensure this.
We will continue to improve further through ongoing efforts. - Waste Reduction and Efficient Resource Utilization:
We will promote the reduction of waste and effective use of resources. This includes organizing and reducing excess inventory within the factory and reusing “tie yarn” produced during the kasuri (ikat) weaving process.
Waste-generating processes such as dyeing will be handled at dyeing and finishing cooperatives in areas with appropriate facilities. - Energy and Resource Conservation:
We will reduce paper resources by promoting digitalization, including accounting operations.
We will enforce the practice of turning off lights during the break from 12:00 to 13:00.
Maintaining the current production system contributes to energy conservation, and we are committed to maintaining and continuing this approach. - Transition to Organic Materials:
We are capable of replacing materials with organic cotton and other sustainable materials in current products. We have already successfully made such transitions in the past.
- Development of Environmentally Friendly Products:
- Setting Environmental Goals and Employee Involvement:
To achieve these policies, we will set environmental goals and promote environmental management with the full involvement of all employees. - Raising Environmental Awareness Among All Stakeholders:
This policy will be communicated to all employees, as well as to all business partners and stakeholders, in order to raise awareness of environmental protection. - Promoting Traditional Japanese Crafts and Local Community Engagement:
We will engage in activities to spread and preserve traditional Japanese crafts, including holding seminars on kasuri (ikat) at universities and businesses, and fostering recognition both within Japan and abroad as requested.
In addition to our company’s initiatives, similar activities will also be carried out through the local industry association.
We will continuously accept visits throughout the year.
Ongoing awareness activities will help us regularly refine our initiatives, maintaining a consistent environmental mindset. This will lead to a synergistic effect, improving overall environmental awareness within the company.
This environmental policy will be publicly available on our company website.
