久留米絣は産業ベースで動力織機で絣を織る技術を保有する唯一の産地となりました。柄合わせしながら板状の木管に巻いた緯糸が正確に往復運動を繰り返すと模様が浮かび上がります。その日の気温、湿度などの外的要因や織機のネジの微細なゆるみ各部の摩耗などでコンディションに変化が現れると往復運動のバランスが崩れて柄が乱れます。そのため職人は毎日の織機との対話の時間が欠かせません。
