「荒巻工程」は、絣糸と地糸を合わせて巻き上げる経糸の準備工程としては最終工程になります。織物に使う糸は、毛羽立ちを抑えながら、滑りをよくするために糊とワックスでコーティングします。その中でも絣糸の特徴は、一般的な織物に比べると糊とワックスを多く付けて仕上げていることです。
柄のまとまりを保ちつつも、１本１本にほぐれないと織れないので微妙な匙加減が求められます。天日干しによる仕上げ工程のためにその日の気温など気象条件も考慮しながら調整しています。
