<Kukuri rules>
The warp threads and the weft threads have the same basic structure but the same Kukuri method. Therefore, the warp and weft Kukuri machines are not the same, there are separate machines. Kukuri craftsmen who operate Kukuri machines are also performed by specialized craftsmen. In other words, the same craftsman does not work warp and weft threads on the same Kukuri machine. (However, strictly speaking, there are some exceptions)
The weft thread binding is clear and can be 36 rolls (432m) or 48 rolls (576m) in a single operation. Depending on the type of Kukuri machine and the condition of the Kasuri yarn (number of yarn bundles and yarn thickness), it will be 36 rolls or 48 rolls. Smaller quantities of Kasuri, such as hand-weaving, are charged in a smaller amount, but for Kurume Kasuri, a power-weaving cloth that is generally produced on a commercial basis, the amount is 36 or 48 rolls.
In case of warp, it is a little complicated. It is difficult to understand all of them at once, so I will explain them separately. When making a pattern with warp threads, a pattern may be made with one Kukuri pattern, but a pattern may be made up with multiple Kukuri patterns. Basically, we design patterns by combining up to 6 types of Kukuri patterns, but if they do not fit, we design patterns by 8 types. However, depending on the application, there are 10 types of Kukuri patterns to design patterns. When making a pattern on the premise of mass production considering a commercial basis, basically there are 6 types or less.
The explanation so far is only the beginning. If you try to explain it in letters, it will be long and is it transmitted correctly? Since craftsmen work by moving their hands to make things, they are basically not good at communicating in this way or speaking and communicating in their own words. I’m a craftsman too, so that’s probably true. Everyday manufacturing has a sense of “competition with my sensitivity”, so I think that it is necessary to concentrate deeply in myself and not to be disturbed by words. As a means to supplement that, I wanted to ask more deeply on my blog about manufacturing and Kasuri making using my own words. Also as a record.
