Petite Double Ikat Kasuri is a woven fabric with a high degree of difficulty. Unlike hand weaving, when weaving with a power loom, it is impossible to arrange and weave each one neatly. The law considered in “optimization of overall balance” is also applied here.
The photo is a combination pattern of “Juji and Igeta”. There are places where the Kasuri patterns of the warp and weft intersect neatly to form a Juji pattern or Igeta pattern, and there are places where they do not overlap.
However, if it is said that the pattern that does not overlap is in the way, I think that is not the case. Looking at this pattern, it means that the degree of overlap of each pattern is not the whole evaluation of quality. Of course, the craftsmen in each process aim to make all the patterns overlap neatly according to the design. I feel a well-balanced beauty in the “fluctuation / deviation” of the pattern that is created as a result of going through multiple work processes due to various conditions overlapping.
